A behind-the-scenes snapshot from Aishwarya Rai’s historical drama Ponniyin Selvan – 1 has surfaced online as fans wait for its theatrical debut. It depicts Aishwarya standing for the camera while wearing the outfit of her character Nandini.

In the movie, Aishwarya Rai plays two characters: Mandakini Devi, Nandini’s deaf and dumb mother, and Nandini, the princess of Pazhuvoor who is on a journey to exact revenge. The movie marks Aishwarya’s fourth collaboration with Mani Ratnam, with whom she previously worked on the Tamil film Iruvar and the Hindi blockbusters Guru and Raavan.

In July, the highly awaited movie’s teaser was released. The captivating trailer showed stunning scenes from the past as the Cholas were shown bravely contending with one another in the 10th century. The same-titled Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, which was published as a series in the 1950s, was adapted for the big screen as Ponniyin Selvan-Part 1.

The cast of Ponniyin Selvan includes Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. Aditya Karikalan will be portrayed by Vikram, Vanthiyathevan by Karthi, Kundavai by Trisha, while Arunmozhi Varman will be portrayed by Ravi.
