In response to a Canadian director who called The Kashmir Files hateful garbage, Vivek Agnihotri says: ‘This is all lobbying’

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has addressed Dylan Mohan Gray’s criticism of his movie, The Kashmir Files, days after he garnered attention for his response to Anurag Kashyap’s statement that it shouldn’t be submitted to the Oscars. Recently, the Canadian director tweeted that The Kashmir Files was “hatemongering crap” and would humiliate India if it were nominated for an Oscar. In response, Vivek has said that “someone sitting in Canada” may have seen his movie in the first place. He may not be a talented filmmaker, but Vivek said he is aware of politics.

Anurag Kashyap was right to try to protect what was left of India’s good name when he voiced hopes that the movie would not be chosen as India’s official entry to the 2018 Oscars, according to Dylan, who recently called The Kashmir Files “hatemongering rubbish of no artistic worth.” On August 17, Dylan tweeted in response to Vivek Agnihotri’s tweet regarding Anurag’s remark, “Yeah, actually it’s (hatemongering, revisionist) garbage of no artistic merit and will be a further embarrassment to India if’selected’ by the ‘neutral’ board… Anurag Kashyap is just trying to preserve what’s left of the country’s good name.” Dylan produced the Netflix docu-series Bad Boy Billionaires India released in 2020.

In a recent interview, Vivek spoke to ETimes regarding Dylan’s remark. “This is all lobbying and politics. My political acumen is better than most filmmakers. Itna credit toh mujhe do (Please give me that much credit). I may not be a great filmmaker but I understand politics. Tell me, how did someone sitting in Canada notice my film? That means somebody is lobbying.”
