The fun of working with Bhansali is different: Ajay Devgn

Gangubai Kathiawadi, a film featuring Alia Bhatt, was released last February. This time too, as expected by the viewers, Bhansali did not disappoint anyone. Even people who told Alia about the wrong casting of the film got their fingers in their mouths. Ajay Devgn is also in the lead role in this film. Ajay has a strong voice like Karim Lala and similar strong looks.

Ajay and Bhansali are paired for the second time after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Earlier, there was talk of casting Ajay in Bajirao Mastani, but Bhansali dropped the idea of taking Ajay Devgn along with another instead of Bajirao Mastani’s original cast. After that, Ajay’s name was also mentioned in Padmavat again. Although Ajay says that before Padmavat we talked about the film but the film was not offered to me. At that time I was busy with other films while Bhansali’s choice of casting was also different.

Sanjay told me this at a time when Bajirao Mastani was not even written. We also had a discussion about whether he wanted to cast me. But that time was probably not for the film. However, I have always considered myself lucky to have a place in Bhansali’s company. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was as much fun as I had during Gangubai. You can’t fall in love with Sanjay’s way of working. Even if you are perfect as an artist, by working with Bhansali you get to know and learn a lot. I still become like a blank slate when I work with him today. I think he wants every artist to have his own characters and ideas. A keen eye for his films teaches us a lot as well as makes the film a success.

When Gangubai was handed over to me, I did not even ask him to read the script, I said that I am doing this film but he insisted that no, you read the story once. Salman Khan was supposed to be in Gangubai earlier, but who knows, Ajay was cast without talking to Salman. However, Ajay is very happy to reunite with Bhansali.
